To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department if he will list those tribunals whose members(a) receive and (b) do not receive payments and allowances; and if he will set out the payments and allowances for each tribunal. [28691]

The tribunals for which the Lord Chancellor is responsible whose members(a) receive payments and allowances are:

  1. (i) the Immigration Appeal Tribunal
  2. (ii) the Lands Tribunal
  3. (iii) the Pensions Appeal Tribunal
  4. (iv) the Transport Tribunal
  5. (v) the VAT and Duties Tribunal.

The salary of the president of the Immigration Appeal Tribunal is £79,978; the salary of full-time members is £75,978; the daily sitting fee of part-time legal members is £282; the daily sitting fee of part-time lay members is £130.

The salary of the president of the Lands Tribunal is £79,978; the salary of full-time members is £75,978; the daily sitting fee of part-time members is £345.

The salary of the part-time president of the Pensions Appeal Tribunal is £26,407.20; the daily sitting fee of part-time legal chairmen is £282; the daily sitting fee of part-time medical members is £300; the daily sitting fee of part-time lay members is £130.

The daily sitting fee of part-time legal members of the Transport Tribunal is £254 and of part-time lay members is £203.

The salary of the president of the VAT and Duties Tribunal and presiding special commissioner of income tax—a combined post—is £88,266; the salary of the vice president is £66,018; the salary of chairmen is £62,018; the daily sitting fee of part-time chairmen is £282; the daily sitting fee of part-time lay members is £162.

All full-time members of the judiciary who receive a salary of £62,018 or £66,018 and who are in receipt of the £2,000 London allowance also receive a salary lead of £2,000 per annum over their colleagues outside London.

Travelling expenses are payable. These are the actual cost of rail, bus, taxi or air travel. Car mileage is paid thus:
