HC Deb 16 May 1996 vol 277 c512W
Mr. Nigel Evans

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will set out the results of the review of guidance on avoiding the over-implementation of EC legislation in UK law. [29976]

Mr. Freeman

The Government's policy is to implement EC legislation in a way that fully meets our legal obligations while imposing the least possible burden on business and others affected.

I am today publishing a new "Implementing European Law" checklist, which will assist Ministers and officials in avoiding any over-implementation of EC legislation. Ministers will certify personally that they have applied the checklist.

I am arranging for copies of the checklist to be placed in the House Library.
