To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what regulations have been enacted since 1980 which(a) deregulate and (b) regulate the meat rendering industry. [28103]

Legislation introduced by the Department since 1980 to regulate the rendering industry is as listed. No deregulatory legislation was introduced during this periodThe Diseases of Animals (Protein Processing) Order 1981 (SI No. 1981/676). This order was revoked and replaced by the Processed Animal Protein Order 1989 (SI No. 1989/661). The Animal By-Products Order 1992 (SI No. 1992/3303) The Animal By-Products (Amendment) Order 1996 (SI No. 1996/827) The Animal By-Products (Identification) Regulations 1995 (SI No. 1995/614). The Specified Bovine Offal Order 1995 (SI No. 1995/1928) and the Specified Bovine Offal (Amendment) Order 1995 (SI No. 1995/3246) were revoked and replaced by the Specified Bovine Material Order 1996 (SI No. 1996/963), which was revoked and replaced by the Specified Bovine Material (No. 2) Order 1996 (SI No. 1996/1192).
