HC Deb 13 May 1996 vol 277 cc356-7W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if members of the Territorial Army called up for service in Bosnia were required to send home their civilian clothes and travelling bags from Bosnia at the start of their service. [27653]

Mr. Soames

[holding answer 2 May 1996]: No policy instructions have been issued from the UK or in theatre which require personnel to send home their civilian clothing. I understand, however, that a few members of the Territorial Army have arrived in theatre with inappropriate civilian clothing. Storage space for personal effects is limited in Bosnia and in such circumstances the individual may well have been instructed to return unnecessary clothing to the UK. The guidance on civilian clothing given to the reservists about to deploy to Bosnia has been made more specific, so that the problem should not recur.
