HC Deb 13 May 1996 vol 277 cc357-8W
Mr. Khabra

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what contacts have been made with the Indian high commission in London, and the authorities in India, to establish the facts of the disappearance of Mr. Lashkar Singh Dhami since his arrival in Bombay on 7 May 1992, on British Airways flight No. 139. [28719]

Mr. Hanley

Our high commission in New Delhi and our deputy high commission in Bombay have made extensive inquiries of the Indian authorities in an attempt to trace Mr. Dhami. The latest contact was with the missing persons bureau of the Bombay criminal investigation department in January 1996. It is extremely disappointing that, as yet, there has been no trace of Mr. Dhami.

Our posts will continue to press the Indian authorities for the news of Mr. Dhami. However, they have no investigative role in cases of this nature. The proper channel is through Interpol. There has been no contact with the Indian high commission in London.

Mr. Khabra

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the whereabouts of Mr. Lashkar Singh Dhami, who arrived in Bombay, India, on 7 May 1992, on British Airways flight No. 139. [28720]

Mr. Hanley

Despite extensive inquiries by our high commission in New Delhi and our deputy high commission in Bombay, there has been no trace of Mr. Dhami since his arrival in Bombay on 7 May 1992.
