Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what applications have been received by his Department in respect of the operation of an aquarium by Shirayana Shokusan in the county hall, London SE1. [28926]

Sir Paul Beresford

My Department has received no applications for either listed building consent or planning permission relating to the operation of the proposed aquarium at county hall.

Mr. Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the current location of the chairman of the GLC's chair. [28920]

Sir Paul Beresford

That is a matter for the owners of the riverside building of county hall.

Mr. Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much remains to be paid by Shirayana Shokusan to the London residuary body for the purchase of county hall; and when he expects to be paid this sum. [28924]

Sir Paul Beresford

The contract for the sale of county hall provided for a deferred sum of £10 million to be paid to the London residuary body from April 1997, subject to the full sum being paid by 2012. Following the winding up of the London residuary body on 29 March of this year, the London borough of Bromley inherited the remaining rights and liabilities in respect of county hall including those in relation to the payment of this sum.

Mr. Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what payments have been made to the London residuary body by Whitbread plc in respect of the that company's involvement in the development of county hall. [28925]

Sir Paul Beresford

Prior to the winding up of the London residuary body on 29 March 1996, Whitbread plc had not been required to make any payments to the residuary body in respect of the development of county hall.
