§ Mr. NelsonThe KPMG study on outwards investment was published by HMSO on Thursday 9 May. Copies are available in the Libraries of both Houses. The study's main findings were that outward investment is becoming increasingly important for UK firms of all sizes, in both services and manufacturing sectors; that the main factor influencing outward investment is the need to increase sales and develop markets; and that the effect of overseas investment on UK firms' employment levels is neutral to positive for all but a small minority of projects.
