To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many hours of education and training were available to prisoners at Highpoint gaol in the last full year for which figures are available. [27941]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from A. J. Butler to Mrs. Anne Campbell, dated 8 May 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the hours of education and training available to prisoners at Highpoint prison. The number of hours available to prisoners for education and training at Highpoint prison, from 1 March 1995 to 29 February, 1996, was 16,061 hours for education and 8,096 hours for training.
