HC Deb 08 May 1996 vol 277 cc146-7W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many additional diplomatic missions have been established in the region of the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia; at what cost; and if he will make a statement. [27412]

Mr. Hanley

Between 1991 and 1995, 13 additional diplomatic missions were opened in the former Soviet Union, including one trade office, and four in the former Yugoslavia. The latest detailed cost figures available are for 1994–95. The cost of nine of the 13 missions in the FSU in that year was £5,646,352. The remaining four were opened since 1994–95. The costs of the missions in former Yugoslavia in 1994–95 were £2,245,698. All of this expenditure was covered by redeployment of existing resources.
