HC Deb 08 May 1996 vol 277 c177W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what measures he is taking to support crofters(a) in respect of (i) arterial drainage and (ii) hill drainage projects, (b) to provide stock grids, (c) in respect of the planting of shelter belts, (d) to provide or improve their mains electricity, gas connection and electrical equipment and (e) in respect of projects to improve roads, bridges, culverts or boat slips. [28199]

Mr. Raymond S. Robertson

[holding answer 7 May 1996]: The crofting counties agricultural grants scheme currently provides grants to crofters towards the costs of all these measures. The agricultural business improvement scheme currently offers grants in respect of the planting of shelter belts; provision, replacement or improvement of electricity supplies; and the provision of stock grids on croft roads. The farm woodland premium scheme and the Forestry Commission's woodland grant scheme currently provide support in respect of the planting of shelter belts.
