HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c83W
Mr. Barnes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he received recommendations from the City of London police to site video cameras at Stranraer, Holyhead and Fishguard, as part of security operations to counter the Provisional IRA; and what plans he has to commission video cameras at these points. [27240]

Mr. Howard

[holding answer 1 May 1996]: Advice on the introduction of closed circuit television cameras at ports across the country has been provided by the Association of Chief Police Officers, not the city of London police. Funding and guidance on the installation of CCTV has been provided by the ACPO advisory group since June 1994, and cameras were operational at Stranraer, Holyhead and Fishguard by March 1995.
