HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c106W
Mr. Pawsey

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what is the current level of Government funding for higher education; and what was the figure in 1979 and 1989 in constant prices. [28091]

Mr. Forth

The current level of Government funding for higher education institutions in England is around £4,600 million. In 1989–90, at constant prices, it was just under £4,000 million. Comparable figures for 1979–80 are not readily available.
