To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of the five-year-old children in Scotland had dental caries in(a) 1990, (b) 1992 and (c) 1995; and if he will make a statement. [27403]

A standardised survey on randomly selected samples of children aged five across Scotland found that the mean percentage of five-year-old children for whom there is evidence of caries experience was 59.2 per cent. in 1989–90 and 58.2 per cent. in 1991–92. Figures for 1995–96 are not yet available.
