To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many Vehicle Inspectorate testing stations are currently in operation in the United Kingdom; and how many have(a) one, (b) two, (c) three, (d) four, (e) five and (f) six lanes. [23575]

Letter from Ron Oliver to Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody, dated 28 March 1996: The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question on the number of Vehicle Inspectorate testing stations in operation and how many lanes they have. Details of the number of stations are given below:

  • Full-time stations
  • 5 lane: 6
  • 4 lane: 4
  • 3 lane: 17
  • 2 lane: 32
  • 1 lane: 16
  • There are 15 part-time stations all with one lane.
