HC Deb 26 March 1996 vol 274 c482W
Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment when and for what reasons schools buildings undergo a Hunter survey. [22143]

Mrs. Gillan

It is for local education authorities and the governors of voluntary and grant-maintained schools to satisfy themselves about the condition of the school buildings for which they are responsible. It is open to them to conduct building surveys if they decide this is appropriate.

The Funding Agency for Schools commissioned a survey of all GM schools in February 1995. This was carried out on the agency's behalf by Hunter and Partners in order to assist the agency in managing the GM capital budget and in ensuring that the available resources are targeted to areas where they are needed most.
