§ Mr. SproatNone of the grade I listed buildings directly managed by my Department and open to the public have sprinkler systems installed. I am not aware of any other grade I listed buildings normally open to the public under the management of other Government Departments that have such systems. Sir Alan Bailey's report, "Fire, Protection Measures for the Royal Palaces", recommended that the extra risk reduction that would be achieved by such systems would not justify the additional damage to the heritage fabric resulting from installation.
