HC Deb 18 March 1996 vol 274 cc45-6W
Mr. Clapham

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the precautions to be taken to protect the Pembroke coastline against a spill of orimulsion from ships delivering to Pembroke power station. [20849]

Mr. Norris

Like all ships carrying oils in bulk, ships transporting orimulsion are required to be constructed and operated in compliance with the UK regulation giving effect to internationally accepted rules and standards on the prevention of pollution. Any additional conditions attached to the grant of planning permission in respect of the current applications for the construction of a jetty and from road accidents have been recorded in each year of the last 10 years (i) nationally and (ii) in the Greater Manchester area; and how many of those affected were under the age of 16 years. Mr. Norris

The information requested is shown in the following table.

for the conversion of Pembroke power station are matters for the local authority and the President of the Board of Trade respectively.
