HC Deb 18 March 1996 vol 274 cc75-6W
Mr. Barron

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what guidance he has issued on the use of(a) agnio-tensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, (b) aspirin, (c) beta-blockers and (d) cholesterol lowering agents in the treatment of coronary heart disease; and if he will make a statement. [19562]

Mr. Horam

Guidance is contained in "Assessing the Options: CHD/Stroke", published by my Department in 1995. Advice on cholesterol lowering agents is covered in the effective health care bulletin on "Cholesterol Screening and Treatment", published in June 1993 by the NHS centre for reviews and dissemination. Copies of both of these documents will be placed in the Library.

Information on these subjects is also contained in the health care needs assessment on coronary heart disease which was commissioned by the Department of Health and published in 1994 by the Wessex Institute of Public Health and Radcliffe Medical Press.

Mr. Barron

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many operations were performed in each of the last three years for(a) percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and (b) coronary artery bypass grafting by (i) age and (ii) sex of patient and by (1) NHS trust, (2) district and (3) region. [19563]

Mr. Horam

The information requested will be placed in the Library.
