To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has had from the South Manchester community health council in regard to the closure of 64 hospital beds, including four intensive care beds, in consequence of the accounting error made in the South Manchester University Hospitals NHS trust; what reply he is sending; if he will be instituting an independent public inquiry; and if he will make a statement. Mr. Horam

We have received a letter from South Manchester community health council and will be replying shortly. An independent inquiry is already under way.
