HC Deb 18 March 1996 vol 274 c91W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received concerning the provision of snack bar facilities in lay-by areas along the A55 in north Wales. [21068]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

North Wales police and local authorities expressed concern for safety of road users because of trading on lay-bys along this busy route and I subsequently announced on 23 January that the Highways Directorate will shortly initiate statutory procedures necessary to prohibit the practice.

Since the announcement, four informal representations have been made in favour of the prohibition and seven against.

Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what objections he has received to the proposal to introduce clearway orders to effect a trading ban in the A55 in north Wales in respect of mobile snack bars. [21067]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

None, as the draft orders have yet to be published.
