To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will undertake a study of the criteria for determining areas designated for regional assistance in Wales to identify discrepancies between those areas currently most in need of assistance, and the areas recognised as in need on this basis of the criteria used when the last regional assistance map was established. Mr. Hague

No. The assisted areas map can be reviewed only on a Great Britain basis. It was introduced in 1993 and the Government have made it clear that it will not be reviewed within the lifetime of this Parliament.
