The Secretary of State for Social Security has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question asking what was the total number of (a) Social Fund grants and (b) Social Fund loans which were (i) claimed and (ii) granted in each year since 1989 in the area covered by Benefits Agency offices serving Southampton; and what was the expenditure in each year on each benefit.The information requested is not available for the financial year 1989–90.When the Benefits Agency was formed in April 1991, existing Local Offices were grouped into Districts. Annex A gives the figures for the Southampton Local Office prior to the change. Southampton Office forms part of Solent and New Forest District, which also includes the Fareham and New Forest Branch Offices. Annex B, gives the figures for Solent and New Forest District from April 1991 to date. Figures are only available for the District as a whole.I hope you find this reply helpful.
