The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question asking what proportion of headquarters administration expenditure is included in the cost per certified normal accommodation place in public prisons.The costs per baseline certified normal accommodation place quoted in the annual report for individual public sector prisons do not include any element of headquarters administration expenditure.The cost per place figure for the Service does include headquarters expenditure.
