Available figures relate to the number of assessments, not to claimants, and a person can be in receipt of more than one assessment. Based on prescribed disease assessments current at 2 April 1994, the average annual amount paid per industrial injuries disablement benefit assessment as a result of a prescribed disease was £1,669 at the 14 April 1993 rates. Of 43,184 assessments, current at 2 April 1994, 21,979 were for life awards and the average duration of the remainder was 46 months.
