To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the EU Commissioner responsible for regional development and his departmental officials concerning a review of objective 2 status in industrial south Wales. [18593]

Mr. Hague

I met Commissioner Wulf Mathia on 4 October 1995 when I discussed continued objective 2 status for industrial south Wales and the Government have made clear to the Commissioner that we see no case for changing the current UK objective map.

My officials, together with the partnerships, are already developing the new single programming document for industrial south Wales.
