Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the number of general practitioner practices in Wales as at 1 April 1996, which were(a) total fundholding, (b) conventional fundholdings and (c) community fundholding; how many patients in total were covered by each category of GP; and what proportion this represented of the total patient population. Mr. Hague

As at 1 April 1996, in Wales, there were:

  1. (a) Four Total Purchasing Pilot Projects involving 14 practices' with a combined list of 130,251 (4.44 per cent. of the population);
  2. (b) 197 Standard Fundholding practices with a combined list of 1,424,535 (48.54 per cent. of the population); and
  3. (c) 13 community Fundholding practices with a combined list of 39,876 (1.4 per cent. of the population).
