HL Deb 25 June 1996 vol 573 cc54-5WA
Lord Wade of Chorlton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been the knock-on effect of the ban on British beef in terms of lost revenue to exporters of all types of meat from the United Kingdom.

Lord Lucas

As regards the beef sector, the ban has halted exports which were worth an estimated £720 million in 1995. It has also adversely affected UK sheepmeat and pigmeat exports. Information in terms of lost revenue is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
