HL Deb 24 June 1996 vol 573 c50WA
Lord Willoughby de Broke

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the reply by Lord Lucas to Viscount Gage's Starred. Question on 4th June (H.L. Deb, col. 1158), what authority or agency is responsible for monitoring the content of animal compound feeds.

Lord Lucas

The composition, labelling and marketing of animal feed in Great Britain is governed by the Feeding Stuffs Regulations 1995. These regulations are enforced by local authorities. Responsibility for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the prohibitions on mammalian protein in animal feed lies with the State Veterinary Service and local authorities jointly.
