To ask the Secretary of State for Health if the Committee on Safety of Medicines has issued a letter relating to desogestrel and gestodene in terms of paragraph 6(1)(c) of schedule 2 to the Medicines for Human Use (Marketing Authorisations Etc.) Regulations 1994 since 18 April. [31858]

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Gordon (Mr. Bruce) of 19 December 1995,Official Report, columns 1150–51, if the United Kingdom representatives on the Committee for Proprietary Medicinal Products communicated to Ministers the results of the CPMP deliberations on 18 October prior to the issuing of the "dear doctor" letter of the same date. The meeting of 13 October was called because there was an urgent need to obtain independent expert advice on important new evidence concerning the safety of oral contraceptives.
