Appointments are usually for a three-year term.Northern Ireland Housing Executive—Three appointments are on an annual basis.

Appointments to the above tribunals are initially for one year, and thereafter renewable at three-yearly intervals, provided service is satisfactory. In 1995, 82 medical assessors were appointed for one year for SSATs. They are not members, but provide advice on medical interpretation as required by the tribunals.Central Medical Advisory Committee—a representative from the Northern Ireland Junior Doctor's Committee of the British Medical Association is appointed annually.
