§ Mr. BowisThe table gives the number of formal admissions of patients detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 who were classified as "mentally impaired" or "severely mentally impaired", in England for 1987–88 to 1992–93. These include admissions to national health service facilities and private mental nursing homes authorised to detain patients under the Registered Homes Act 1984; information for special hospitals is not available centrally. Data for earlier years are not available on a comparable basis. Figures for 1993–94 and 1994–95 will be published shortly.
