§ Mr. SproatEnglish Heritage generated £7.5 million from ticket sales at its historic properties in 1995–96. It also generated £3.5 million from its membership scheme and a further £4.7 million from retail and catering activities. The total visitor and membership income of £15.7 million represents over 30 per cent. of English426W Heritage's total running costs of £50.9 million in 1995–96 and over 50 per cent. of the costs of running and maintaining its 407 historic properties.
