HC Deb 17 June 1996 vol 279 cc355-6W
Mr. Home Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the advice obtained by his Department about the specifications for(a) the support rails for the crane, (b) the motor for the crane, (c) the local exhaust ventilation system, (d) the doors and (e) the space allocated for storage and specialist trades for the LAD building (No. 36) at Bourlon barracks, Catterick. [31613]

Mr. Soames

The information requested is as follows:

  1. (a) My Department provided the crane specification and, as the contract included both the "design and build", it was the contractor's responsibility to install appropriate support rails.
  2. (b) The statement of requirement provided by my Department in January 1993 included a requirement for exhaust extraction. The specification for the local exhaust ventilation system was developed by the design team, on advice from GKN Defence the makers of Warrior. A general extraction system was also included in the specification.

Mr. Horam

The information will be placed in the Library.
