To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer of 13 May,Official Report, column 362, if he will give a breakdown of the costs incurred by his Department in respect of royal visits abroad in each year since 1990–91. [30034]

[holding answer 20 May 1996]: It is not possible to provide a breakdown of expenditure for financial years 1990–91 and 1991–92 without incurring disproportionate cost.

For 1992–93, I refer the hon. Member to the replies given on 16 June 1993, Official Report, column 64 and 24 June 1993, Official Report, column 239 to the right hon. Member for Swansea, West (Mr. Williams). Those replies reflected total costs to the Department at that time amounting to £423,500. The full outturn figure for that year amounted to £455,695.
