HC Deb 04 June 1996 vol 278 cc443-4W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures control the use of artificial light in the display of (a) meat and (b) other foodstuffs in retail outlets; what plans he has for further regulations in this area; and if he will make a statement. [29630]

Mrs. Browning

[holding answer 21 May 1996]: The Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 (SI 1995/1763) require "adequate natural and/or artificial lighting" in all food premises covered by these regulations, to help ensure hygienic handling.

This Department has no plans to introduce further controls.
