HC Deb 04 June 1996 vol 278 cc326-7W
Mr. Barnes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what services he operates to enable prisoners, when released, to be rehabilitated into society, with special reference to arrangements for both long-term and short-term prisoners to find accommodation once their prison sentence has ended. [30663]

Mr. Sackville

Depending on their circumstances, accommodation is available to ex-prisoners in approved probation/bail hostels or in housing supported by area probation services. There are 2,349 places in approved probation/bail hostels and over 5,500 housing places supported by probation services.

The general arrangements for the post-release supervision of offenders are set out in chapter 7 of "National Standards for the Supervision of Offenders in the Community 1995" and the "National Framework for the Throughcare of Offenders in Custody to the Completion of Supervision in the Community", copies of which are in the Library.
