HC Deb 04 June 1996 vol 278 c327W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many registered disabled people are employed by his Department; and what percentage this is of the total figures. [30767]

Mr. Howard

The total number of registered disabled staff in the Home Office and its agencies, and the percentage this represents of the total number of staff, are as shown. Figures refer to the staffing position on 23 May.

  • Number of registered disabled staff: 229
  • Percentage of registered disabled staff: 0.4

The nature of many of the posts within the Prison Service limits the scope for employing people with disabilities. Excluding Prison Service staff, the total number of registered disabled staff in the Home Office and its agencies, and the percentage this represented of the total number of staff on 23 May were as follows:

  • Number of registered disabled staff: 174
  • Percentage of registered disabled staff: 1.5

Note: The total number of staff in the Home Office and its agencies, including the Prison Service, was 51,782 on 23 May. Excluding the Prison Service the total was 11,322.
