§ Mr. StreeterThe Lord Chancellor's Department incurs three main costs during Crown court trials; staff and accommodation costs to the Court Service, judicial salaries and the cost to the legal aid fund. No average cost per trial is available as cost data for the Crown court are collected on the basis of the cost per day. For the year 1995–96 these amounted to approximately £5,245 per day. This figure does not cover the cost of any of the other agencies involved in the trial process.
