HC Deb 04 June 1996 vol 278 c316W
Mr. Jon Owen Jones

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department in how many cases legal aid has been allowed for company debts because these debts have subsequently been ascribed to an individual. [30809]

Mr. Streeter

Cases where legal aid is granted following an assignment from a company are not separately recorded. The Civil Legal Aid (General) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1996, which came into force on 1 June, permit an application to be refused where a cause of action is transferred to another party with a view to allowing the action to be commenced or continued with the benefit of a legal aid certificate.
