HC Deb 24 July 1996 vol 282 c378W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the number of schemes in the current road programme which have had their route protection orders removed; and what effects this will have on their programmes for construction. [39492]

Mr. Watts

I have asked the chief executive of the Highways Agency to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody, dated 24 July 1996: The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your recent question asking if he will list the number of schemes in the current road programme which have had their route protection orders removed; and what effects this will have on their programmes for construction. For schemes in the current main programme no route protection notifications to local authorities have been removed. For schemes in the longer term programme, I have set out the schemes which have had their route protection withdrawn. Given current funding constraints, preparation work on all schemes in the longer term programme has been stopped and will be brought forward only after substantial progress has been made with the main programme.
