Ms Hodge

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the cost of staff employed full lime or part time (i) to provide information and publicity and (ii) to work on the press and media in(a) 1995–96, (b) 1994–95 and (c) 1993–94. [39410]

Mr. Howard

The cost of staff employed full time or part time by my Department to provide (i) information and publicity; and (ii) press office services, all media, in each of the years listed was as follows:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is his Department's budget in 1996–97 for consultants to assist with information, publicity, press and media. [39348]

Mr. Howard

My Department's communication directorate budget for 1996–97 includes no provision for consultants to assist with information, publicity, press and media. The directorate buys the great majority of its production services from a range of suppliers, but does not use consultants. Communication directorate specialists from the Government information service provides Ministers and officials with advice with advice on all aspects of information, publicity and press and media.

Mr. Howard

The cost budgeted for staff employed full time or part time by my Department to provide information and publicity in 1996–97 is £1,303,340. The total includes press office staff, £717,340, and publicity and campaigns staff, £586,000. It covers information and administrative grades but does not include prisons agency staff.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many staff are assumed in his Department's budget, employed (i) full time and (ii) part time,(a) to work on the press and media and (b) to provide information and publicity in 1996–97. [39368]

Mr. Howard

My Department's communication directorate budget for 1996–97 provides for employment of 24 press office, all media, staff and 19 information and publicity staff. These figures include information and administrative grades. There are two part-time information staff and two part-time administrative staff. The total does not include prisons agency staff.
