To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the number of police officers employed by each Welsh police authority in each year since 1979; and if he will make a statement. [39194]

Information on police strength in individual force areas from 1979 to 1995 can be found in the appendix to the annual reports of Her Majesty's chief inspector of constabulary, copies of which are in the Library. Details of police strength for each Welsh force at 31 March are set out in the table:
