Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he will commission double-blind, multi-centre, randomised, parallel group study on the effect of varying dosages and frequency of the use of Colofac; and if he will make a statement; [39209]

(2) if he will commission a study into a double-blind, randomised, parallel group, placebo-controlled, multi-centre to evaluate the efficacy of Lexipafant (BB-882) in patients with acute pancreatitis; and if he will make a statement; [39220]

(3) if he will commission a study into Famotidine as a treatment for nocturnal heartburn; and if he will make a statement; [39211]

(4) if he will commission a randomised, double-blind, parallel group multi-centre study to compare Ranitidine Bismuth CXitrate (GC311) 400 mg bd in combination with either (a) clarithromycin 250 mg qds or (b) 500 mg bd for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori with duodenal ulcer; and if he will make a statement; [39213]

(5) if he will commission a study, into the relationship biochemical properties, biochemical composition and the ultrastructural organisation of human articular cartilage; and if he will make a statement. [39219]

There are no plans at present to commission these studies. Research commissioned within the Department's policy research programme is set out in "Centrally Commissioned Research Programme" and "Centrally Commissioned Research Programme: Commissions 1994/95", copies of which are available in the Library.
