HC Deb 24 July 1996 vol 282 cc375-6W
Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will require the Civil Aviation Authority to give greater representation on its board to passenger representatives. [39463]

Mr. Bowis

No. The board is not designed to represent specific groups. Passenger interests are safeguarded in other ways. For example, there exists the Air Transport Users Council which was set up by the CAA in 1973 to assist it in safeguarding the interests of airline users, as well as advising the CAA on matters of interest to air transport users.

Mrs. Dunwoody

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent review he has conducted of the role, functions and structure of the non-ATC related parts of the Civil Aviation Authority; and if he will make a statement. [39461]

Mr. Bowis

The Department is currently reviewing the role of the economic regulation group of the Civil Aviation Authority and its relations with the Department of Transport and other agencies. No decisions have yet been reached on the review's conclusions.
