As at 1 April 1995 there were approximately 985 people receiving retirement allowance in Wales and 10,700 in Great Britain. In order to assess those who will be transferred to retirement allowance under the amended legislation which came into force on 24 March, the Benefits Agency has identified all remaining reduced earnings allowance recipients who are over pensionable age. About 350 such recipients were identified within the area administered by the Eastern Valleys district, about 1,900 in Wales and about 20,000 in Great Britain.
