HC Deb 23 July 1996 vol 282 c273W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his answer of 8 July,Official Report, column 42, about complaints in respect of opt-out status, what factors made it difficult to provide information without incurring disproportionate costs. [39017]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

A significant number of ballots on grant-maintained status have been accompanied by complaints about the material distributed to parents and the activities of those campaigning in the run-up to the ballot. To provide the details requested would have involved a comprehensive search of a large number of departmental files in order to identify the number of correspondents, the nature of their complaints, and the action taken by officials in respect of any complaints as well as their consideration of the material issued by the school, its local education authority, and third parties.
