Ms Hodge

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many staff were employed full time or part time(a) to provide information and publicity and (b) on press and media in (i) 1995–96, (ii) 1994–95 and (iii) 1993–94. [39430]

Mr. Norris

The figures sought are as follows:

  • (a) (i) 9 full-time publicity officers
  • (a) (ii) 9 full-time publicity officers
  • (a) (iii) 9 full-time publicity officers
  • (b) (i) 20 full-time press officers
  • (b) (ii) 17 full-time press officers
  • (b) (iii) 19 full-time press officers

Staff in departmental agencies work on both publicity and press and media and cannot be broken down as requested. The figures are:

  • 1995–96: 13.5
  • 1994–95: 16.5
  • 1993–94: 11.2

  • (ii)(a) 1 Part-time Press Officer
  • (i) (b) 7 Full-time Publicity Officers
  • (ii) (b) None
