To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many cases processed by the Benefits Agency have been affected by the decision of the House of Lords on the Bate case; in how many cases, suspended pending the outcome of the Bate appeal, payments have been made to claimants; if he will indicate the total amounts paid out to claimants affected by the Bate case; and what considerations led to the decision to make the payments.
