§ Mr. David DavisThe Euro-Mediterranean Association agreements, so far concluded with Tunisia, Morocco and Israel, state that respect for human rights and democratic principles constitute an essential element of the agreement. The principle of self-determination is not specifically mentioned in the association agreements, but in the declaration which was adopted at the Euro-Mediterranean conference at Barcelona in November 1995, 15 EU member states and the 12 Mediterranean partners undertake
to respect the equal rights of peoples and their right to self-determination, acting at all times in conformity with the purposes and principles of the Charter to the United Nations and with the relevant norms on international law, including those relating to territorial integrity of States, as reflected in agreements between relevant parties".
