To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many DNA tests to prove family relationships for immigration purposes have been carried out under the Home Office-funded scheme during(a) 1995 and (b) the first quarter of 1996, listed by country of origin; what was the average waiting period for the test and for its origin; what was the average waiting period for the test and for its results; and in how many of those tests the family relationships proved to be as claimed by the applicants. In 1995, the average waiting time from the taking of a blood sample to a decision being made on DNA tests was six to eight weeks.
